Welcome back to returning families and welcome to our new families!

It is our hope that you and your child(ren) will have a great experience in our Christian Formation Program (CFP). We are committed to helping our young people receive and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We want to support you and to partner with you in living out your vocation as a Christian parent.

At the heart of our approach is the Sunday celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The experiences that children have in CFP sessions flow from and lead back to our communal celebration of Sunday Mass. Our goal is to make the time your children spend at Mass and at formation sessions an opportunity for them to deepen their relationship with God, with other children, and with the whole parish community.

On average, CFP formation sessions take place twice a month between September and May, for 90 minutes. Grades 2-4 meeting on alternating Saturdays, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Children in grades 5-8 meet on alternating Mondays, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Teens in 9th grade prepare for Confirmation by gathering once a month, immediately after the 10:30 am Mass.

This year, we are introducing a new faith formation option for families enrolling rising first-graders.  The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-inspired approach to the faith formation of young children. Families for first-graders will have an opportunity to learn about CGS at a Parent Orientation, which they can attend on August 15 or 16.  After the Parent Orientation, parents of first graders will be able to indicate their preference for CGS or the traditional model, and to choose their preferred session.  Placement will be on a “first-come, first-served” basis, with first preference given to families with older children registered for CFP classes on Saturdays and Mondays.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Hansen, Director of CFP, at 219-865-8956 x308 or at KathyH@smgdyer.org.
